How it works:

You can connect this drive to a computer through USB ports or a SATA/eSATA port. Your computer will assign a drive letter to this external hard drive, such as "E" drive. This USB2.0 port on the enclosure kit will be backward compatible with USB 1.1, so if your computer does not have USB2.0 port, it will still work for you as long as you have USB1.1 port. To take advantage of USB2.0's fast speed, you can add USB 2.0 ports to your computer by order USB2.0 card from us. USB2.0 PCI card is for desktop computers, USB2.0 PCMCIA card is for laptop/notebook computers.

How to Power this drive:

If you connect the hard drive to computer USB ports, it can be powered from USB bus power. Whether a USB port can power a hard drive depends on the USB port itself and the hard drive you are using. This kit comes with a USB Y cable. If one USB port does not supply enough power to power the hard drive, you can connect to 2nd USB port to get extra power, which normally will supply enough power to the hard drive.



If you are planning to use SATA or e-SATA port for faster data transfer rate, please note that a SATA or e-SATA port does not output any power. So if you want to use a SATA or e-SATA port, you need to get power from other power source. This kit comes with a USB power cable to get power from a USB port:
