External, Slim Portable Slot Loading Hi-speed USB2.0 DVD +/- RW & CD-RW Combo Drive, -8X Double Layer.

Most potable external optical drives are not really portable because they need external AC power. This portable slim external DVD +/-RW & CD-RW drive is really portable since it does not need any external AC power: It is powered from USB port, and also comes with an extra power cable to get extra power from pS/2 keyboard port or another USB port. This makes this drive a real portable drive.

With high-performance USB 2.0 interface, the Slim DVD +/-RW & CD-RW allows data accessing or burning CDs at 480Mbps speed. Once the drive is connected to a computer, a proper protocol/drivers will automatically load and provide instant access.

Note: DVD playing and recording require USB2.0 port. If your laptop/notebook computers only have USB1.1 ports, you can  use our USB2.0 PCMCIA card to add  USB2.0 ports through PCMCIA slot.

Power Options:

There are two kinds of USB Ports: High-power port, which can supply 5V maximum 500mA power; Low-power port, which can supply 5V Maximum 100mA power. Most desktop computer USB ports are high-power USB ports. On a laptop computer, normally at least one USB port is high-power port, the other USB ports may be high-power ports or low-power ports, please check your laptop manual.

The DVD drive requires 5V 400mA ~ 800mA power, one USB port may not supply enough power, so it also comes with an extra power cable to get extra power from PS/2 keyboard port or another USB port.

A 5V AC/DC power Adapter is also included for powering the unit from a AC outlet on the wall. You can also use the 5V external batteries listed on this page to power the drive in case your computer does not have extra USB ports or PS/2 keyboard port.

You can also use our USB cable battery or our 5V external batteries listed on this page to supply extra power to the drive when AC power source is not available. The USB cable battery has a li-ion rechargeable battery built in the middle of the USB cable which connect the external drive to the computer USB port.
