Optical Drive Installation Guide -HPCQ300

Optical drive installation guide for Compaq Presario C300 & HP Pavilion G3000 series laptop computers.

Before removing the current drive, follow these steps:

1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.

2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.

3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.

4. Remove the battery.

Remove current optical drive:

1. Prepare the computer for disassembly (see above).

2. Position the computer with the left side toward you.

3. Remove the Phillips PM2.5×5.0 screw (1) that secures the optical drive to the computer.

4. Insert a thin tool into the notch (2) on the back of the optical drive and push to disconnect the optical drive from the system board.

5. Remove the optical drive (3).

6. If it is necessary to replace the optical drive bracket, perform the following steps:

a. Position the optical drive with the connector toward you.

b. Remove the two Phillips PM2.0×4.0 screws (1) that secure the optical drive bracket to the optical drive.

c. Remove the optical drive bracket (2).

Reverse the above procedure to install an optical drive.

Note:The optical drives listed on this page are compatible with these series laptop computers. However, the front bezel shape and color may not match with the original drives.
