Dell Modular Bay Optical Drive Installation Guide

This installation guide is for Front Modular Bay optical drive in:
  • Dell Inspiron: 2100, 2500, 3700, 3800, 4000, 4100, 4150, 8000, 8100, 8200
  • DELL Latitude CP, CPi, CPi A, CPi R, CPt, CPt C, CPx, CPx H, CPx J
  • DELL Latitude CS, CSx, CSx H, CSx R
  • Dell Latitude C400, C500, C510, C540, C600, C610, C640, C800, C810, C840

    NOTICE: Disconnect the computer and any attached devices from electrical outlets, and remove any installed batteries.

    NOTICE: To avoid ESD, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by touching an unpainted metal surface on the computer.

    NOTICE: Read the procedures in General Safety Guidelines for Working with Notebook Computers.

    1. Close the display, and turn the computer upside down on a flat work surface.

    2. Slide the modular bay latch toward the right.

    3. Keep holding the latch open while you pull the device out of the modular bay with the other hand.

    Note:If your laptop has an optical drive in modular bay now, you can just order a bare drive and re-use the optical drive caddy. If your laptop currently does not have an optical drive in the front modular bay, then you need to order the optical drive with optical drive caddy kit.
